Traditional apple crumble

  1. Heat oven to 180˚C.
  2. Peel and chop apples and sprinkle a few blackberries in the base of an ovenproof dish/ pan to make a layer.
  3. Add a tablespoon of water to the pan and sprinkle a couple of tablespoons of sugar over the fruit.
  4. Make crumble by adding a pinch of salt to 300g flour (about 10 tablespoons) and stir.
  5. Now chop in 200g of butter or margarine until it is all in small ‘crumbs’.
  6. Add 175g (about 6 tablespoons) of brown sugar to the crumble mix and stir in
  7. Now spread over the top of the apple and blackberry mixture and press down with your knuckles, it tastes best when you can see the chef’s fingerprints.
  8. Bake in oven for around 40 minutes until crumble top starts to go golden brown
  9. Eat with yoghurt, cream or ice-cream!
